Enable Local Failover (Cloud Consult fallback)
2 min · 3 steps
When Runtime is Local and an LLM call fails, prompt to retry with a cloud provider.
Local Failover (the rebranded Cloud AI Consult) is OFF by default. When enabled and Runtime is Local, Avery pauses the failing node and offers to retry the call against your configured cloud provider. Build is unaffected — Build always uses your AI Model for Build setting. Local Failover is N/A when Runtime is Cloud (cloud doesn't fall back to itself). BYOK — the API key lives in your local keystore.
Steps
- Connect a cloud provider in Cloud Models Config.
If you haven't already — see the 'Connect a cloud provider' recipe. Local Failover references whatever provider you pick here.
- Open Settings → AI → AI Model for Runtime.
Pick the Local mode option (Avery's default for new installs).
- Find the Local Failover card + toggle ON.
Scroll to the Local Failover card. Pick which cloud provider to fall back to + flip the toggle. The toggle persists; flipping it emits an Activity event for audit.
